Samantha was diagnosed with special needs in Kindergarten. “She was really impacted at the start of the pandemic because she just didn’t understand what was happening,” said Benitez. “I know she was probably just in her own world, with her imagination and not really fully engaged.”Like many other school districts, Galena Park ISD noticed their special education children needed more support. “For a lot of our students that was a very difficult transition.”Epps has been in education for 25 years and said the special education students returned weeks before others.

GALENA PARK, Texas – The emotional strain from the coronavirus pandemic on educators has been overwhelming. Instead of telling the faculty and staff in Galena Park Independent School District what a great job they’ve done, the school board of trustees and superintendent decided to show them. As a token of their appreciation for their dedication and commitment during the pandemic, trustees approved the administration’s recommendation at Monday’s board meeting. Ad“It’s a great way to show folks that you love how much you care,” said Dr. John Moore, Galena Park ISD superintendent. VYPE dropped by the #Eastside school as the district stadium was given a face-lift, which will drastically lower the heat coming off the playing surface and have more "give" upon contact. SPRING, Texas Parents and students lined up at several schools in two Houston-area school districts to receive devices that will make learning from home easier in the new school year. Schools administrators from the Galena Park Independent School District and the Spring Independent School District passed out Chromebooks and chargers ahead of the 2020-21 school year. The district said it could be until late August event September before elementary and student middle school students can pick up their equipment. On Monday, the district passed out hundreds of Chromebooks, chargers and school supplies to middle school students at several drive-thru locations throughout the district. The district said elementary school students will be able to pick-up their equipment on Aug. 13 and 14.
