Federal student loan borrowers hopeful Biden administration will provide more relief
HOUSTON โ Federal student loan borrowers may receive some reprieve this month once President-elect Joe Biden takes office. โI do have student loan debt. Americans as a collective have about $1.7 trillion in student loan debt with the average 2019 graduate carrying a $28,950 balance, according to the Federal Reserve. The incoming president is also considering erasing $10,000 in federal student loan debt per person, which has sparked controversy. โIt really, again, disproportionately benefits higher income households relative to low income households.

Texas will apply for federal program to get extra $300 per week for unemployed Texans
More than 10 states โ not including Texas โ have already been federally approved for additional jobless relief, providing an extra $300 or $400 in unemployment checks. Greg Abbott said he was directing the state employment agency to apply for the federal funding. Once approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the money will provide an extra $300 weekly for jobless Texans, and another $100 on top of that if Texas decides to chip in. The directive from Abbott comes as 61,416 Texans applied for unemployment relief in the week ending Aug. 15. In total, more than 3.2 million Texans have applied for jobless assistance since the coronavirus pandemic began.

HOUSTON โ As the coronavirus pandemic has caused a great economical crisis, many workers have been laid-off or are not receiving pay during business closures. If youโre worried about missing a mortgage payment, contact your lender immediately. Numerous banks have said they are willing to work with distressed borrowers, including potentially suspending or reducing mortgage payments for a stretch. TAA advises renters to communicate with their property manager if they find themselves unable to pay rent. According to the association, they have encouraged rental property owners to waive late fees and set up a payment plan for residents impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
