Residents and business owners in Houstonโs East End and Fifth Ward communities vented their frustration Thursday over stopped trains blocking major intersections, creating traffic jams as drivers wait โ sometimes over an hour โ for a train to clear the crossing.

With little money and no health insurance, he recalls how community health workers at his church connected his family with available services. Tickets for The Drive-In off Navigation are available starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday and cost between $22-$36 per vehicle, depending on vehicle occupancy and the day of screening. HOUSTON โ Guillermo โMemoโ Villarreal, 81, first opened up Memoโs Record Shop in 1968. The East End record store sells different types of music and movies and serves as a musical museum of sorts with some of the worldโs greatest Spanish superstars posing for pictures with Villarreal. โVicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, Antonio Aguilar, Rigo Tovar, Lucha Villa and Jose Jose,โ said Villarreal. Villareal has been in the record business for about 52 years and offers a vast selection of different types of music including Mariachi, Conjunto, Tejano and salsa. Before opening his record store, Villarreal was a successful music promoter, responsible for bringing stars like Vicente Fernandez to Houston for the very first time.
COVID-19 testing site opening at HCC Southeast College to help Hispanic communities
HOUSTON โ A new free COVID-19 testing site in the East End is opening up Monday at Houston Community College's Felix Fraga Campus. Houston has partnered with United Memorial Medical Center to open the site that Mayor Turner said will be used to specifically help the Hispanic communities in Houston. The site is also supposed to alleviate the testing demand at the HCC Southeast College. Since early March, more than 4,800 Hispanic people tested positive for COVID-19 in Houston, according to the Houston Health Department. Hispanic people make up more than 40% of those who tested positive, according to the Harris County Public Health Department.

A suspect was taken into custody shortly after it happened about a block away on Avenue J.The officer was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital.It wasn't known what led to the shooting.The officer's death is the first line-of-duty fatality involving a Houston-area law enforcement officer since Harris County Sheriff's deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal was ambushed during a traffic stop in Sept. 2019.

Local veterans help build park in East End District in remembrance of 9/11
HOUSTON - Eighteen years after Sept. 11, dozens of veterans teamed up in the East End District to answer that act of violence with community building. The Mission Continues encourages veterans to utilize their skills in the civilian world to help and volunteer. On Saturday, The Mission Continues partnered with the East End District, which provides services and conducts capital improvements throughout the 16 square miles of the district in Houston, to beautify an area in need at 7200 Capital Drive.
