A new bill and joint resolution introduced in the Texas Senate by a Houston-area senator would give Texans the opportunity to vote on whether the state continues to observe Daylight Saving Time or Standard Time.

The man who originally introduced the bill, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, reintroduced the bill to Congress last year.

And just like that...millions of Americans lost an hour of sleep yesterday!

Not only is it spring break, but it is also Daylight Saving Time (DST). Officially DST begins at 2 a.m. on March 12, where you are supposed to advance your clocks ahead by one hour.

Last March, the U.S. Senate passed what is known as the Sunshine Protection Act, which would end the twice-a-year ritual of changing clocks by making one set time permanent.

The end of the twice-yearly time change could come next year for the United States.

The Twitter-verse lit up yesterday with the #1 trending topic being the permanent switch to keeping Daylight Saving Time. No falling back. Unanimous senate approval is now ready for the House and, perhaps, ultimately President Biden’s signature. Known as the Sunshine Act, if this goes through we’ll never change our clocks again.

Considering we JUST sprang forward, time wise, we had to ask: Has the time change ever ruined your day? Or even your week?

Even though winter doesn’t slip away until next weekend, time has its marching orders. And in the United States, it’s just about time to “spring” forward.

Springing forward and falling backward seems to be a no win--in the fall we are happy to set clocks back an hour for that extra hour of sleep, but not happy with earlier dark skies. In spring, when we happily get that daylight back by setting clocks an hour forward, we complain that we lose an hour of sleep!

My friends, Tim and Stephen, played it smart with Daylight Saving Time---they were in Puerto Vallarta last weekend and got an extra hour of sleep as Mexico went back one hour last Sunday. Now this weekend back home in Texas, they’ll get another extra hour of sleep! You may remember back in 2007 when President Bush changed the ‘change day’ to the first weekend in November rather than the last weekend in October---too much danger in the dark during Halloween for trick-or-treaters. Mexico stuck with the original so if you’re looking for extra hours of sleep consider that trick next time! But this is what we have for us this Sunday:

It’s time to adjust the clocks in the kitchen, bedroom, car and wherever else is needed, as another daylight saving time day is upon us this weekend.
