A Liberty County commissioner who came under fire earlier this year for mocking dog advocates is now under investigation after being indicted on three counts, according to reports.

A hot mic moment during a Liberty County Commissioners meeting has sparked outrage among animal advocates, after audio captured Judge Jay Knight and Commissioner David Whitmire mocking advocates following a public comment session on the county’s stray and loose-owned dog crisis.

It’s an issue that has been going on for months in Liberty County.

Now, two people who volunteer to help rescue and rehouse some of those strays, Jenny Rodriguez and Zully Vasquez, say the scope of the problem also includes people dumping unwanted dogs. Animals that may have been shot or run over and are now suffering on the streets.

Residents across Liberty County are bringing their own solutions to county commissioners after ongoing issues with stray dogs and dog attacks.
