Award-winning investigator Mario Diaz has been a journalistic watchdog for viewers across the Houston area since 2017.
Throughout his tenure at KPRC 2 (the station he grew up watching as a boy in Lake Jackson), Mario has advocated for Houstonians, as well as Texans by exposing how millions of public dollars have been misspent by public officials and holding them accountable.
Time and time again, Mario has exposed public officials who look out for their own interests instead of the hardworking families they serve. It is a familiar site to see public officials making a quick exit when Mario enters a room; he is known for asking hard-hitting questions they don’t want to answer.
Mario got his start as a sports journalist in Las Vegas, Nevada. In fact, for more than twenty years he has called world title fights in Spanish and English from ringside locations including Las Vegas, New York City, and Macau for the likes of HBO Sports and ESPN. Diaz came to Houston from New York City where his investigative reporting resulted in a 1.2 million dollar fine for big box retailers Barneys and Macy’s after he exposed how they were racially profiling minority customers. Mario has also worked in politics, serving as the Communications Director for U.S. Senator John McCain in the SE Region of the U.S. for McCain 2008.
Mario is a 6-time Edward R. Murrow winner, a 25-time NATAS Emmy award winner, and a 5-time NY Press Club honoree.
When not chasing down officials, Mario is spending time with his family chasing down a beach with waves, a baseball diamond, and a bowl of chips and queso
