Randy McIlvoy is Houston's most tenured Sports Director, having served in this role at KPRC 2 since 2004. He considers it the ultimate honor to work in his hometown.
Randy attended Herod Elementary, Fondren Jr. High, and Bellaire High School. He graduated from Sam Houston State in 1989 and launched his broadcast career, now in its third decade. He covers Houston sports, as well as all sports in the Southwest Region.
Randy began his on-air career in Beaumont before moving on to Dallas where he served as the main anchor for Fox Sports Net Southwest and the Southwest Sports Report which aired regionally each night in five states.
While at FSN, Randy also continued his play-by-play work for college programs, conferences, and UIL high school state championships in football, basketball, and baseball. In his spare time, Randy still serves as a play-by-play voice for events at Rice, UH, and Sam Houston on their university broadcast platforms.
Throughout his time at KPRC 2, Randy has enjoyed many of Houston's best sports moments and brought it all home to KPRC 2 viewers! Among the highlights are the deep playoff and World Series runs of the Astros starting in 2004 and their World Series titles in 2017 and 2022. The Rockets have enjoyed successful seasons along with the Houston Texans, Houston Cougars, Houston Dynamo, and all of the great stories on the local high school front. Randy continues to produce and host Friday Football Frenzy, a KPRC 2 franchise he created in 2006 that is now Houston's longest-running high school football show.
Randy is a 4-time Lone Star Emmy award winner for his on-air work as a sports anchor, reporter, and host along with numerous other nominations. He has also received Top Sportscast honors three times by the Associated Press.
Randy married his wife Tammy back in 1990, and they have two grown daughters: Courtney who graduated from Texas A&M and lives in the Dallas area, and Keely who graduated from Baylor and lives with her husband in Little Rock, Arkansas.
