Alvin, TX – This little league baseball team is doing a whole lot more than just winning — they’re cutting through the competition and Coach Keegan Smith’s hair while they’re at it.
The Majors 12U Padres just wrapped their regular season undefeated. But forget giving out traditional game balls after each win, these kids grab clippers and take turns buzzing their coach’s hair.

“I thought it would be something really fun for them to do, something they would remember,” Coach Smith said. “And obviously, it’s got them locked in and playing well. We just finished our season undefeated.”
The team is riding the high of their perfect record. “Makes me feel sigma,” one player said with a grin that said it all.
After each win, the dugout is full of energy. Eli Tinnon described the postgame vibes as “hype,” while Gage Smith added, “pumped up… positive vibes.”
And their favorite moments from the season prove this squad isn’t just having fun, they’re locked in and full of talent.
Colton Turpin proudly remembered, “hitting a grand slam,” while Kenneth Fischer shared a dramatic game-saving highlight: “Me and Gage — he was playing first — and the tying run was coming. We got a double play at first and at home to win the game.”

Coach Smith told KPRC 2 that coaching this age group can be a challenge, as they’re often in their own world and full of energy.
“You just gotta keep (the team) grounded, let them know everything that’s going on.” Smith shared. “More than anything, have them all working together, building each other up.”
And the postgame trims? That’s no gimmick anymore. It’s a full-on tradition.
“We just cut hair and talk about what we did with the game,” said Brenden Adams.
For this team, the clippers have come to symbolize something bigger than baseball — unity, motivation, and moments they’ll never forget.

Up next: playoffs. The 12U Padres are gearing up for their first postseason game on Tuesday, and Coach Smith has no plans to switch up the winning formula.
“Just show up, get a good warm-up, keep doing the same things we’ve been doing all season, and hope for the best,” he said. “It’s turned out pretty well so far.”
