Source: Texas defensive tackle Vernon Broughton visited hometown Texans

HOUSTON – University of Texas defensive tackle Vernon Broughton visited the Texans on Wednesday, according to a league source.

Broughton (6-foot-5, 311 pounds) recorded 39 tackles, 4 1/2 for losses with four sacks, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Two seasons ago, the Houston native had 17 tackles, 4 1/2 losses for one sack for the Longhorns as he played behind Byron Murphy II and T’Vondre Sweat.

He played in 55 career games and finished with 69 tackles, 10 1/2 for losses and 5 1/2 sacks.

He had six tackles in the Southeastern Conference championship game against Georgia.

Broughton was an academic All-Big 12 Conference selection.

At Cypress Ridge, he was an All-American selection after transferring from Spring Woods.

He chose the Longhorns over LSU, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
