HOUSTON – The Texans have moved on from team president Greg Grissom and will be looking for new leadership on the business side of their front office, according to league sources.
The team later confirmed Grissom’s departure.

“We want to thank Greg for his contributions to the organization,” Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. “Since he became our team president in 2021, Greg helped me implement numerous initiatives to help our organization fearlessly evolve and grow in many ways, which we are very thankful for. We wish Greg and his family all the best in the future. We will provide updates regarding the team’s next president in the coming days.”
Grissom was previously promoted to team president in 2021 from senior vice president of corporate development as the replacement for former team president Jamey Rootes.
Grissom was known for his strong relationships and experience interacting with corporate sponsors, community leaders and charities.
Grissom had operated as a key lieutenant for the AFC South franchise since the Texans’ inaugural season in 2002, and he was promoted five separate times.
“Leading the Houston Texans business operations has been the opportunity of a lifetime,” Grissom said in a statement. “After almost 25 years with the Texans, including the last four as President, I feel it’s the right time to embrace new challenges and opportunities. I want to thank Janice McNair and Cal and Hannah McNair for their support and the opportunity to help lead this organization.
“Over the past four years, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished for our fans and for our business. Most of all, I am thankful for the relationships I’ve built with my Texans teammates, everyone at NRG Park, corporate and civic leaders across Houston and Harris County, and, of course, our passionate Texans fans. These connections have been the most rewarding part of my time here and will always hold a special place in my life. I am grateful for my time with the Texans and look forward to what’s next.”
Grissom was elevated following an interview process that included him, former Texans chief marketing officer Jennifer Davenport along with external candidates. That included Tony Wyllie, a Texas Southern graduate who was the regional president and managing director for Special Olympics North America and a former senior vice president of communications for the Washington Football Team who previously led the Texans, Rams and Titans’ public relations departments.
Grissom was promoted to his previous executive role in 2017.
Grissom, who previously worked for the Astros as an account services manager and club promotions coordinator, is on the board of directors of the Houston Food Bank, originally joined the Texans as a corporate sales manager before being promoted to director of corporate development, senior director of corporate development and vice president of corporate development. In that role, he oversaw all sales and partnership of the Texans’ corporate partnerships.
Before joining the Texans, Grissom worked for Enron Corp as a sports marketing specialist. A native of Austin and a married father of two children, Grissom attended Baylor University.
