Hello Texans fan! This is KPRC 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy checking in with this week’s Houston Texans early week newsletter to get you caught up!

We are now 7 weeks into this NFL season and the Texans are in good shape but with plenty to work on.

When you look at the AFC South, the Texans are sitting at 5 and 2 overall but are just one game up on the 4-3 Indianapolis Colts who come to NRG stadium this weekend.

WHAT ARE THE ISSUES?

It’s pretty clear coming out of the loss to the Green Bay Packers that there are major issues right now on the Texans Offensive line that need to be cleaned up.

There seems to be some kind of communication breakdown on the offensive line and C.J. Stroud is feeling major pressure that led to a poor outing at Lambeau Field on Sunday where he was held to 86 yards passing.

DEMECO RYANS QUOTES

On the balance of cleaning up getting beat physically and the mental errors

“We have a lot of things to clean up when it comes to our protection and it’s everyone involved, O-line, tight ends, backs, it’s everybody working together, being on the same page and just getting it done. We’ve had multiple weeks where the same things have hurt us multiple times, so we have to get it fixed, starting with the coaches and down to the players of finishing and executing.”

On if fixing the errors can be done with personnel changes or schematic changes

“For me, everything is on the table when it comes to it has to get fixed.”

On how confident he is in Offensive Line Coach Chris Strausser being able to turn things around

“Like I said, when it comes to it, I know how we’re coached, what we’re asking to be done and it’s just not showing up on the tape. And it’s not just one person. It’s the entire thing, so it’s just the entire offense from the top to the bottom, we have to get it cleaned up. Not one person or one thing, but multiple things, multiple issues that we have to get, collectively, we have to get it fixed.”

WHAT’S NEXT

This week, the Texans return to practice on Wednesday and we will get a better gauge of where some of the injured players stand and who has a chance to return Sunday against the Colts.

They’ll kick off at 12 noon Sunday at NRG stadium.
