The Astros are expected to recall Catcher Cesar Salazar from Triple-A Sugar Land for September 1 roster expansion, a league source tells KPRC 2.

Salazar played in 9 games for the Astros in 2024, hitting .318 with 8 runs batted in. Salazar has drawn rave reviews from Astros pitching for his game planning and handling of the staff.

Salazar has an OPS of .807 in Triple-A this season with 7 home runs and 49 RBI in 240 at bats.

His addition allows the Astros to have more flexibility with their two main catchers, Yainer Diaz and Victor Caratini. Both catchers have recently played more first base as the Astros look for ways to put their top hitters in the lineup.

MLB teams are allowed 28 players on the active roster starting September 1st. League rules allow teams to call up one pitcher and one position player.
