The shooting was first reported shortly after 12 p.m. by the college’s alert system.

Authorities have confirmed the suspect is Phoenix Ikner, the son of a Sheriff’s Deputy and School Resource Officer. Ikner used a weapon that his mother had previously used as a service weapon, which was a handgun.

Police were on scene or on the way around noon, officials said. Students and faculty were instructed to continue to seek shelter and await further instructions.

“Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,” students were told.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the school officially announced that the threat had been “neutralized.” Students were still told to avoid the areas near the shooting, as they are still considered to be an active crime scene.
