‘His loss is felt deeply’: Houston police officer conducting traffic escort killed in crash

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer conducting a traffic escort on a motorcycle died when he was struck by another vehicle in Anderson County Wednesday.

HPD says Senior Police Officer Alex Roberts was killed in the crash, which happened around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Details on where exactly the crash happened have not been released at this time, but HPD said it is under investigation by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

“Senior Police Officer Roberts faithfully served the Houston Police Department with honor and dedication. His loss is felt deeply within our department and the community he proudly served,” said HPD Police Chief J. Noe Diaz, Jr.

Senior Police Officer Roberts was assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division, Solo Motorcycle Detail, and was sworn as an officer on November 2010.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date.

“We ask for your continued prayers for his family and extended HPD family during this time of mourning,” the department said in a statement.
