Houston firefighter who suffered medical emergency while transporting patient has died

HOUSTON – A Houston firefighter who suffered a medical emergency while on duty on Sunday has died, the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association announced Wednesday.

Stephen Scott, a nearly 30-year veteran of the Houston Fire Department, was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center. Despite surgery and continued treatment, he died Wednesday from resulting complications.

His death will be counted as a line-of-duty death.

“Brother Scott dedicated nearly three decades to protecting the people of Houston,” said Patrick M “Marty” Lancton, HPFFA President. “We grieve this tremendous loss and stand with his family and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.”

Scott leaves behind a wife, one son and two daughters, along with countless others who loved him.

“Firefighter Scott was a dedicated member of this team, and will be missed by the HFD family,” Houston Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz said in a statement announcing Scott’s passing. “His legacy is one of hard work, honor, and service to his community.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
