The family of Angela Marisol Diaz says their yearlong search for the missing 22-year-old has ended in heartbreak, confirming remains found in Clear Lake earlier this year belong to her.
Her father, Edward Diaz, shared the heartbreaking update in a statement released Friday.
“It is with deep sorrow that I share this heartbreaking update. Angela had been missing since July 1, 2024, and after over a year of searching, her body has now been found. Our family is devastated, and we are currently making arrangements for her funeral.
While we grieve this unimaginable loss, I am determined to seek justice for my daughter. I am asking for your help in sharing her story once more with the community, not only to honor Angela’s memory but also to help us find the person responsible for taking her life.
Angela was a bright and loving soul, a daughter whose presence blessed our family every single day. Her life was cut far too short, and I am pleading with anyone who has information to come forward and assist law enforcement in their investigation.
Thank you for your compassion, your support, and for helping us keep Angela’s memory alive as we fight for justice.”
Houston police said the skeletal remains were found in March in a wooded area near Moonrock Drive and Bay Area Boulevard, not far from NASA’s Johnson Space Center and Clear Lake High School. At the time, investigators said it was unclear how long the remains had been there or the person’s identity.
What happened
Angela’s disappearance sparked a large search effort and an ongoing investigation that later uncovered links to human trafficking.
Court documents allege she was trafficked by 31-year-old Krystephor Karvon Brown.
Investigators said Brown was charged with promotion of prostitution last year after undercover officers witnessed him allegedly arranging prostitution appointments involving Diaz.
Detectives also discovered text messages that appeared to show Brown pressuring Diaz to travel to Dallas for clients, despite her reluctance.
Angela’s sister, Sorangely Diaz, spoke to KPRC 2 earlier this year, sharing her pain and determination to find answers.
“She’s the joy,” she said. “When I’m with her, I’m always laughing… Her energy, her joy is something else. I miss that.”
The Diaz family is now asking the public to come forward with any information that may lead to an arrest.
“Angela was a bright and loving soul, a daughter whose presence blessed our family every single day,” Edward Diaz wrote. “Her life was cut far too short, and I am pleading with anyone who has information to come forward and assist law enforcement in their investigation.”
Houston police are continuing their investigation into Angela’s death.
