HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department released body worn camera video of moments that led up to the deadly shooting of an armed robbery suspect on Aug. 10.

HPD releases bodycam footage of all deadly officer-involved shootings within 30 days.

What happened

Officers responded to reports of an armed robbery on Aug. 10 around 7 p.m. near Bellaire and Kirkwood.

After getting information on the suspect’s vehicle, officers located it and tried to pull the driver over, but he refused, leading police on a 15-minute chase throughout southwest Houston.

The suspect eventually stopped at a home in the 8800 block of Aspen Meadow Drive, where officers said he exited the vehicle armed with two guns.

Officers gave multiple verbal commands for the suspect to drop his weapon, but he refused. Multiple officers then fired their guns, fatally shooting the suspect.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The 34-year-old suspect has not been identified.

Investigators are looking into his possible involvement in other robberies.

Houston PD said seven officers discharged their weapons: Sergeant L. Chaney, Officers J. Grawe, R. Vasquez, Q. Nguyen, R. Carballo, and M. Meola, assigned to the Westside Patrol Division, were sworn in as officers in December 2014, October 2023, December 2021, January 2024, May 2019, and January 2024, respectively. Officer N. Jaramillo, assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in January 2024.
