CONROE, Texas – A man has been arrested after authorities say he dragged a Montgomery County Precinct 3 deputy with his vehicle while trying to flee during a criminal investigation Friday.

On Sept. 5, Constable Ryan Gable’s Criminal Investigation Division and Criminal Interdiction Unit executed a search warrant in the 29100 block of Interstate 45 as part of an ongoing investigation.

During the operation, deputies attempted to make contact a man in a vehicle believed to be connected to the case. Officials said the man, later identified as 37-year-old Daniel Matthew Irwin, of The Woodlands, refused to exit his vehicle despite multiple requests.

When a deputy attempted to physically remove him, investigators said Irwin became combative, shifted his truck into drive and sped off, dragging the deputy for a brief moment. The deputy sustained minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.

Deputies, along with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Oak Ridge North Police Department, the Shenandoah Police Department, the Conroe Police Department, the Houston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, searched for the suspect.

Irwin was later found at 2301 S. Millbend Drive in The Woodlands and arrested without further incident, according to officials. He has been charged with assault on a peace officer, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Constable Gable thanked all of the law enforcement agencies who assisted in the search and arrest.
