A jury found Tavores Henderson, the man who killed a Nassau Bay police officer during a traffic stop, guilty of aggravated assault of a public servant, prosecutors announced.

Sgt. Kaila Sullivan served the community with what prosecutors described as courage, honor and a deep commitment to public safety.

Sullivan was killed on Dec. 10, 2019, when the suspect she was trying to apprehend got away, jumped into a vehicle and ran her over, officials said.

After a two-day manhunt, the suspect, later identified as Tavores Henderson, was arrested and charged with capital murder.

Assistant District Attorneys Lisa Stewart and Stephany Abner prosecuted the case on behalf of Sullivan, her wife and her son.

Prosecutors said the verdict does not erase the family’s loss, but it brings legal accountability for Henderson’s actions.

Sentencing begins Monday. Henderson faces up to life in prison; a judge will determine his sentence.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office said it honors Sgt. Sullivan’s legacy.
