HOUSTON – Two members of the Galveston Municipal Police Association were hospitalized Wednesday morning after nearly drowning during a training exercise.
According to a press release from the Galveston Police Department, the two victims reportedly lost their footing and went underwater. The other officials participating in the exercise jumped into action, rescuing both of them.
The training was being hosted by the Houston Fire Department. The victims were both members of the Galveston Police Department’s dive team.
After undergoing lifesaving medical care at the scene, the GMPA said both members were treated at UTMB Health and listed to be in stable condition.
Officials with GMPA are asking the community to continue to keep both members in your thoughts and prayers.
“I want to personally thank the quick-thinking officers on scene and the rapid, professional response from our Fire and EMS partners,” Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli said. “Their actions ensured that lives were saved today.”
