Conroe ISD names lone finalist for district superintendent position

The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees named Dr. David Vinson as the lone finalist for superintendent of schools.

Dr. Vinson was announced as the finalist following a special called meeting by the board on Wednesday.

Conroe ISD Board President Misty Odenweller praised the selection, saying trustees were “united in our commitment to find the very best leader.” She expressed confidence that Vinson will guide Conroe ISD with “vision and integrity.”

A graduate of Texas Tech University, Dr. Vinson has served in multiple leadership roles in education across Texas.

He has led Wylie ISD since 2011. Under his leadership, Wylie ISD received top state accountability ratings in 2025, expanded dual-credit enrollment by 600%, and completed more than $700 million in bond projects on time and within budget.

Odenweller expressed confidence that Vinson will guide Conroe ISD with “vision and integrity.”

By law, the district’s board must wait 21 days before officially voting to hire Vinson as superintendent.
