US-290 near West Road is reopened after a major crash involving an 18-wheeler shut down lanes Monday morning, spilling bricks across the freeway and prompting a LifeFlight response.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a woman driving a Toyota Camry lost control and struck the 18-wheeler. The impact caused the truck to lose control, hit the median, spill its load of bricks, and come to rest on top of the concrete barriers between the main lanes and HOV lanes. In the process, the truck collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound in the HOV lane.
Two women inside that car were seriously injured. One was flown to the hospital by LifeFlight, while the other was transported by ambulance. Both were listed in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. He was seen speaking with family members at the scene but declined to go on camera. Deputies said the woman driving the Camry was not hurt and is not facing charges.
Jersey Village Police, Fire & EMS responded alongside Harris County deputies. The HCSO Traffic Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities said clearing the crash required heavy-duty wreckers and would take time.
Traffic remained backed up for hours, but lanes are slowly reopening. Drivers are encouraged to continue using alternate routes as crews work to fully clear the roadway.
