Livingston man charged for impersonating FBI agent in nearly $100K scheme

A 35-year-old East Texas man appeared in federal court Monday on charges of attempting to commit bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and impersonating an officer or employee of the United States, U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced.

Daniel Ricardo Field, who was previously in custody on related charges, was transferred to federal authorities.

What happened

The three-count indictment, returned Aug. 13, alleges Field impersonated an FBI special agent in an attempt to defraud Ally Bank of $93,462.56.

On or about April 22, he also allegedly used another individual’s personal information such as name, birthdate and Social Security number in an attempt to execute the scheme.

If convicted of bank fraud, Field faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a possible $1 million maximum fine, while impersonating a federal officer carries a maximum three-year sentence and up to $250,000 as a potential fine.

He also faces another two years if convicted of the identity theft which must be served consecutively to any other prison term imposed.
