HOUSTON – A person is dead and another was hospitalized Tuesday morning after investigators said their car flipped and caught fire near Jersey Village, causing FM 529 to be shut down.

It’s unclear what led up to the crash, but Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it happened on FM 529 and Fairview on the northwest side, where they heard the occupants were trapped inside.

At least two people were inside, one of whom died from their injuries, while the other was rushed to a hospital in serious condition.
Sheriff Gonzalez said a deputy also suffered a minor burn on their hand while trying to rescue one of the occupants from the burning vehicle.
FM 529 was shut down in all directions as a result, but opened up a little before 9 a.m.
