Back in May, court records claim Jason Ganaway, 48, was upset at the teenage driver for allegedly cutting him off on FM 529 near Hwy 99 in Katy. The teenager told officials that’s when Ganaway, who records revealed as a detective and 16-year veteran with HCSO, pointed a gun at him.

When investigators spoke with Ganaway, he denied pointing a gun at the teenager, but court documents revealed his account of what happened was riddled with inconsistencies.

For example, at first Ganaway said the two did not exchange words, but in a statement with investigators the night of the incident, said he “might have thrown his hands up and said, ‘what’s up?’”

Ganaway also initially told investigators, via arrest paperwork, he did not get a good look at the teen because the windows were up, but then was able to recall his haircut.

When asked again if words were exchanged with the teen, Ganaway changed his story again, saying ‘he might have said, what the (expletive) is your problem?’“ To which the investigating officers reemphasized Ganaway’s inconsistencies, “when he notably began to display traits of aggression by raising his vocal tones and sweating.”

The biggest inconsistency, however, per the court documents, was the teen recognizing Ganaway’s gun, which he described in perfect detail. Ganaway admitted having that gun but left it at home that day.

Surveillance video referenced in the court records was able to shed better light on what transpired, and it corroborated the teen driver’s account.

Ganaway is now facing charges for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. KPRC 2 has reached out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for a statement, but we have not heard back, as of this writing.
