Authorities say they were called around 5:52 p.m. to the reported fire in the 6000 block of Fairdale Lane.

Units arrived to find heavy smoke in the back of the building. They searched, but found no one inside.

As they moved through the building, they discovered it was divided into several sections, making fighting the fire more difficult.

The fire ended up spreading to the roof, which burned off, Firefighters also said they had trouble getting water to the building for a time.

There were several nearby townhomes and businesses, but no other buildings were damaged by the fire.

Due to the age of the building, officials say it had been abandoned and was not being used,

Investigators will be looking to try and determine how the fire started.
