Family, friends seeking justice for woman killed in hit-and-run near the Galleria
HOUSTON – Family and friends of Kathy Lynn, 63, are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for her death. Lynn was hit and killed Thursday while crossing the street near the intersection of Westheimer Road and Interstate 610 in the Galleria area. The driver responsible never stopped to help and render aid and remains on the run. “Anytime you get involved in anything on the street of Westheimer in Houston you got to know there’s going to be surveillance footage,” Teare said. ‘Grinch’ steals life-sized Christmas decorations from home in the Galleria area
HOUSTON – A Houston homeowner wants to know who took some of her Christmas decorations. The next morning the owner realized both of the nutcrackers were gone when she went to check the mail. “They were life-sized, bigger than I am, and they’ve had them up every year since we’ve been here,” said neighbor Ron Roberts, who lives a few doors down. “The neighbors that had this happen do make a big effort to light up their house and provide some joy to the area,” he said. Two neighbors said they recently had issues with minor thefts but the owner said this was the first time someone took her decorations.

2 legendary Texas families team up to open southern-style steakhouse in Galleria area
HOUSTON – The Tilman Fertitta family and the King Ranch family are launching a new restaurant in the Galleria area. King Ranch Texas Kitchen is a southern-style steakhouse, which is set to open before the holidays. The menu will include beef cheek Barbacoa tacos, smoked brisket queso, King Ranch fried quail, blackened redfish and smoked brisket Pimento grilled cheese, per the website. While King Ranch, a major agribusiness with interests in farming, luxury retail goods, and recreational hunting, will supply meats and other products. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturday.
Burger-chan at Greenway Plaza is closed, but maybe not for long
The bad news: Burger-chan at Greenway Plaza announced Friday that it was the last day of business because the location was permanently closing. According to the announcement on the website, the news came as a shock to customers because owners Willet Feng and Diane Wu Feng decided not to publicly announce the closure. Friday, August 28, 2020 is the last day of service for burger-chan at Greenway Plaza. There were days when someone asked how our day was and we couldnt fully answer without tearing up, the couple wrote. The couple said fans of the burger restaurant should stay tuned as burger-chan burgers may still be available here and there.

HOUSTON, Texas A group of street car racers shut down the intersection of Westheimer and Sage in the Galleria area overnight to donuts and other stunts. Cellphone footage showed the stunts as traffic came to a standstill around them. Police were called to the scene and cleared the intersection. Its unclear if anyone was arrested in connection with the incident. The Harris County District Attorneys Office said it is considering charges in the incident.

The Tasting Room in Uptown Park will permanently close Saturday
HOUSTON – The Tasting Room’s original Uptown Park will close their doors on Saturday, becoming yet another restaurant shutting down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Owner Jerry Lasco said in an email to employees Tuesday that failed rent negotiations and limited revenue are reasons for the shutdown. “In the wake of the pandemic, although we have tried many scenarios, it has not been possible to keep the space running at limited capacity,” said Lasco. The restaurant’s original location opened in 2013 and has provided more than 2,000 meals to hospitality workers impacted by the pandemic, Eater Houston reported. Lasco’s other concept, Max’s Wine Dive and The Tasting Room at CityCentre near Beltway 8 and I-10 will remain open.

Construction company ahead of schedule on Westheimer Road project with less people on the road
HOUSTON – Drivers in the Galleria area remember what it's like to drive down Westheimer road near Interstate 610 before the stay-at-home order went into effect. Drivers said there is less traffic on a typically heavily traveled road. Drivers could see light traffic even when the order lifted since road construction companies have been able to work longer hours. Angel Brothers Construction Company is set to finish its nine miles of asphalt pavement project on Westheimer road in 90 days instead of the initially projected 13 months. Derek Angel, who is the co-owner of Angel Brothers, which is contracted with TxDOT to complete the road project, said his crew can work without interruptions.

No injuries reported after explosion at popular shopping center in Galleria area, officials say
HOUSTON – An explosion Friday afternoon at a popular shopping center in the Galleria area send customers running. A contractor doing demolition in an empty retail space said a fire broke out in the empty space. Because there were propane tanks in the empty space, contractors ran to Flower Child restaurant and another restaurant to evacuate people. “I ran in there yelling, ‘Everybody get out, everybody get out.’ There’s going to be an explosion. We (were) waiting for the fire department and then heard, boom, boom, boom.

HOUSTON – Houston’s craved turkey legs are now available in the Galleria area. The Turkey Leg Hut opened a new food truck at the Galleria Food Truck Park at 2829 Chimney Rock Road, according to a press release. The truck will sere the signature turkey legs and cajun bowls. The TLH Galleria Food Truck is part of the brand’s expansion plans that include a Savoy Urban Beer Garden, Daiquiri Hut and Breakfast Hut in the coming months, per the release. Highly-traveled entrance ramp to 610 from Westheimer Road closed indefinitely
According to TxDOT officials, the 610 West loop southbound enterance ramp from Westheimer closed Friday at 9 p.m. The closure will be indefinite until further notice as crews continue their work to reconstruct the interchange between 610 and the Southwest Freeway. Drivers trying to access the West Loop southbound are advised to take the Southwest Freeway outbound to the Chimney Rock Road exit, make a U-turn onto IH 69 northbound frontage road, take the entrance onto 69 and then take the 610 southbound connector. TxDot officials also said the Hidalgo Street curve will be permanently closed. To access Hidalgo Street, drivers are advised to use the West Loop southbound exit ramp to Hidalgo Street and Richmond Avenue.

Big changes coming to Post Oak starting in spring 2020
HOUSTON – Crews started work along Post Oak Boulevard in Uptown in 2016 and now there may be an end in sight. One of the goals was to improve the appearance of Post Oak Boulevard, making it a more walkable environment by widening sidewalks and adding trees. In the end, rail-like buses will run along Post Oak about every ten minutes for most of the day with multiple stops. TxDOT is adding an elevated bus lane from the Northwest Transit Center to Post Oak, expected to be done early next summer. On the southern end, crews are working on a major construction project on Richmond estimated to be done next spring that will link buses to the new Westpark/Lower Uptown Transit Center.
