“We were informed by witnesses that the decedent was in a vehicle traveling home and there was a disturbance in the vehicle,” said Sgt. Richards with the Houston Police Department.

Police said the woman, 43, asked to get out of the white Hyundai Santa Fe for fresh air following an argument.

When the driver of the Hyundai pulled over onto the left shoulder, police said the woman got out of the back seat, stepped into moving traffic.

Police said a black Honda Pilot, traveling eastbound on the freeway, struck the woman.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Morgan Lindsey Stabell, 32, stopped and remained on the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department paramedics.

At the scene, it was determined by police that Stabell was impaired and was subsequently arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
