It happened just before 10 p.m. in the outbound lanes of Katy Freeway near South Mason Road.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud pop and saw an older model truck on the frontage road hit the guardrail in front of the bridge before entering the bayou.
Responding officers saw an unidentified young man, believed to be a teenager, still inside the car, and were able to extricate him. He was flown to Memorial Hospital, where our cameras saw a CPR machine on him as he was taken into the helicopter.

We’re told his injuries are serious, but investigators believe he may pull through.
According to Lt. R. Berry Jr. with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, this was a unique crash.
“Witnesses stated that he did go airborne, and then he ended up on the far side of the bayou,” he said. “I guess God was with him; as you know, we had a lot of rain, [so] had it been full, but drainage was pretty good on this one.”
It’s unclear what led up to the crash, i.e., if speed or alcohol played a factor, but deputies are continuing their investigation.
