HOUSTON – Authorities are piecing together what led up to a deadly shooting where two men’s bodies were found in a southwest Houston park.

The Houston Police Department told KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry they got a call just before 6 a.m. at Wildheather Park off W Fuqua St.
Investigators learned the two men, who were retired in their 70s, were walking in the park when they were were in an ambush-style shooting.
Most of the shots came from behind the men, catching them off guard, and the suspect(s) stood over them and released additional rounds of gunfire from above, according to HPD Sgt. Michael Arrington.
The shooting doesn’t appear to be a robbery, police said. The motive is still unknown.
“They were just out here walking,” Arrington said. “None of their pockets was ruffled through, from what we can tell or look like anything was stolen from them. So, it does appear to be more targeted or an ambush-style attack.”
The victims have been identified as neighbors who live nearby the park and walk in the park every day.
A couple of people in the area reported hearing gunshots between 5:40 a.m. and 5:50 a.m.
Investigators found a double-digit amount of bullets left behind at the scene.
A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the sound of gunfire. There was also a white car captured speeding away on video and police believe the vehicle may be connected to the shooting.
It’s unclear how many suspects are involved.
