Small child killed, multiple injured in major crash on southbound lanes of I-45 Freeway

WEBSTER, Texas – A small child was killed and multiple people were left injured in a major crash in the southbound lanes of the IH-45 Freeway, south of West Bay Area Boulevard on Wednesday, according to Webster Police Department.

Webster Police, fire fighters, and EMS responded to the crash that happened at 3:54 p.m.

Responders found a single vehicle crash in which a Chevrolet Sedan struck a concrete barrier after apparently losing control and crossing several lanes of traffic, police said.

Multiple people were injured and taken to different area hospitals. Life Flight was also called to the scene. Police confirmed that a small child has died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

All main lanes, left shoulder, right shoulder, and exit ramp have been shut down as crews investigate the scene.

Drivers can expect a prolonged closure of the freeway. All southbound traffic is being diverted off at the West Bay Area Boulevard exit ramp.

Officers are working to determine how many people were actually in the vehicle as well as their identities.

The crash is being investigated by the Webster Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team.
