2 tornados touch down in Wharton County during Thursday morning’s storms

HOUSTON – The National Weather Service has confirmed two tornados touched down in Wharton County in Thursday’s early morning storms.

An EF-1 tornado with 100 mph winds touched down around 3:05 a.m. just behind some apartments northeast of Wharton and then traveled east across County Road 166, County Road 133 and County Road 129.

Officials said the most extensive damage was along Everett and Holiness lanes, just south of CR 166.

Numerous homes sustained roof damage and a number of trees had large branches snapped. Wharton County emergency manager reported approximately 10 homes were damaged along with vehicles on CR 166.

As the tornado continued traveling east, it damaged mostly trees and minor roof damage.

The NWS also confirmed another tornado, rate EF-0 with winds of 75 mph, started around 3:20 a.m. just east of Burr and produced some minor tree damage along its path as it traveled west across CR 117.

An older shed had its roof blown off along CR 111.
