Tragedy at Galveston beach: Houston teen dies, another hospitalized after swimming incident

GALVESTON, Texas – A Houston teenage boy has died and a teenage girl has been hospitalized after they went missing while swimming at Galveston beach on early Tuesday morning, according to Galveston Island Beach Patrol.

The incident was reported at 2:52 a.m. at 4300 Seawall Blvd., near the jetty.

Patrol officers responded after reports of two swimmers, an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old young man, went missing in the water.

When Galveston police arrived at the scene, they saw the teen girl on the East side of the jetty and brought her back to shore, and initiated CPR.

The 17-year-old man was later found 15 minutes later on the East side of Tower 43.

The Galveston Island Beach Patrol supervisor on scene entered the water and retrieved the victim with help from Galveston police. CPR was immediately initiated once the male victim was back on shore.

Both were then transported to the UTMB ER.

The male victim was pronounced deceased at 3:56 a.m. at UTMB ER. As of this writing, the female victim is still in UTMB ER.
