According to Cpt. Corey Herrington with HPD, officers responded to reports of shots fired in a parking garage in the Galleria-area.
Officers were given a description of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting and within minutes, they were able to stop the vehicle and detain three people inside.
Herrington says officers also found the victim inside the garage and provided first aid to him. He was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Herrington says they believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the public.
Police aren’t completely sure what the motive was at this time, although Herrington said it could be related to road rage.
Ashlie Pennington told KPRC 2 Reporter Corley Peel she was on the phone with her husband while leaving work when she watched the chaos unfold.
“I told my husband, I said, this guy’s got a knife,” said Pennington.
Pennington said the man with a knife was standing next to the driver’s side of a white car, while two other men were inside the black car. She said another man was standing in between the two vehicles, trying to mediate the situation. Pennington watched as the man with the knife walked towards the black car.
“One jumped out at the driver’s side. Whenever he did, I saw him have a gun and he started just spraying bullets unloaded the gun and I started screaming and my husband was telling me to get on the floorboard and I just took off,” said Pennington.
Pennington managed to called 911 as HPD quickly responded
“After this, I mean, I won’t be going in the rest of the week,” said Pennington.
