According to Sgt. Hall with the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, an unidentified driver whose car did not have tail lights was pulled over Saturday by Memorial Village PD. However, the driver refused to stop and sped off, but the police did not try to chase after them.

On Sunday, a little before 9:30 p.m., the same officers who tried pulling over the driver the day before caught the driver, noticing it still didn’t have tail lights and tried to pull them over in west Houston. Once again, though, Sgt. Hall said the driver did not stop, and Memorial Village PD did not try to chase after them.

While there wasn’t an active chase, Sgt. Hall said the driver ran several red lights while going eastbound on Westheimer, running several lights before crashing into two vehicles on Gessner. The driver continued going eastbound before crashing into another car at the Fondren, causing his car to catch fire.

He was the only occupant in his car, and investigators said he was unable to get out and died at the scene. Meanwhile, other individuals involved in the crash were taken to a hospital to get treated for minor injuries.

No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, but an investigation remains underway, and KPRC 2 will continue to update this story as more details are shared.
