HOUSTON – Rashawn Chinelo Evans, 49, has been charged with deadly conduct after allegedly firing his gun into the air. Nearby homeowners and an HISD school principal were all upset by the disturbance and the raining bullets.
On May 13, Houston police responded to a home on the city’s northwest side in the 800 block of Granville Drive regarding a shooting. The homeowner told police that a bullet went through his window and entered his living room. At the time, the home was occupied by relatives, including his grandmother and children, when the bullet flew into the home.

The homeowner told police he heard five or six shots near his residence as the bullet shattered his window.
The homeowner believed the shooter lived just south of Dillard Street, as Evans has a history of firing shots from his property.
Another witness told police that he was walking outside when he heard multiple gunshots. When he turned around, he saw Evans look at him before walking back into his house.
As police began investigating the area on Dillard Street, another neighbor living near Evans mentioned they had also heard one or two gunshots coming from the residence but were unsure of the exact origin.
A different neighbor reported seeing Evans shooting in his backyard almost weekly for several months, according to police.
Another resident observed him on the other side of the fence firing a gun approximately five times around the time of the incident. Due to the fencing, the witness couldn’t see the shooter’s face but identified Evans’ home as the source.
Police stated that evidence showed the bullet trajectory that struck the home was consistent with someone shooting from the backyard of Evans’ residence.
Investigators also learned that Evans was confronted by the principal of Mabel B. Wesley Elementary School after shots were fired from the home during school hours, records show.
When detectives spoke to the principal, she mentioned that the previous principal had issues with gunfire and that she herself had heard gunshots on the north side of the school while it was in session.
According to HPD incident reports, there is a history of violent firearm incidents associated with Evans’ home address.
After executing a search warrant at Evans’ home, police found a semi-automatic Taurus handgun under the bed, loaded with 9mm WIN Lugar ammunition.
Detectives also located shell casings in Evans’ backyard, consistent with the bullet trajectory from the shooting incident.
Evans admitted to owning a firearm and keeping it under his bed.
Initially, he claimed no one had shot guns on his property, but later admitted to firing his gun around the time of the May 13 incident, according to records.
In 2012, records show Evans was charged with aggravated assault for threatening a man with a firearm.
