HOUSTON – Three people were rescued after a fire erupted inside an independent living apartment complex in north Houston, where a man was also found dead, late Wednesday night.
It happened at the Independence Hall Apartments on Burress Street and Airline shortly before 11 p.m. The first crew of Houston firefighters saw the flames shooting from the complex’s second floor.
A total of three people were rescued and taken to local hospitals, but sadly, an unidentified man, 74, died. However, firefighters said he was found after the fire was put out.
It’s unclear how the fire started, but investigator’s believe it started in the deceased man’s unit.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene, and while they do not suspect foul play, an investigation is being conducted to figure out how he passed away.
At least 20 residents have been displaced as a result of the fire. Red Cross has been called to help those who lost their home.
Arson investigators are also investigating the cause.
