Remains found following 3-alarm fire at Harris County home

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Human remains have been found at a burned home in northwest Harris County, as crews searched for a 20-year-old woman, missing after the fire.

The fire happened at a home in the 5500 block of Imperial Grove Drive on Thursday.

The woman’s family said Thursday they believed she was at the home when the fire started.

While the remains have not yet been confirmed to belong to the woman, a medical examiner is on the way to the scene and will determine if it belongs to her.

The two-story home collapsed during the fire and crews sifted through two stories of debris with each room they searched.

Two firefighters were injured while battling the three-alarm fire. The firefighter injured by smoke inhalation was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. The other firefighter suffered from a heat-related issue and was treated on the scene.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but investigators say the high winds contributed to how fast the fire grew.

Two nearby homes received smoke and fire damage.
