Armed robbery suspect shot by Houston police officer in Museum District

HOUSTON – An armed suspect was rushed to a hospital after being shot by a Houston police officer Friday in the Museum District, according to the police department.

Houston Police say they received a call at 3:23 p.m. from a Family Dollar in the 5100 block of Almeda about a man who stole some items from the store and threatened employees on the way out while brandishing a knife.

Officers later caught up to the man at the Southmore Blvd. bridge over Highway 288.

As officers closed in from both sides of the bridge, the man started running and officers saw the man pull out a knife.

At this point, one officer shot the suspect, hitting him in the head.

The suspect was immediately transported to the hospital where he is said to be in critical condition. He is believed to be between 30-40 years old.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
