Officers were informed the man inside was actively cutting himself. They walked up to the front door of the apartment and knocked on it.

When they knocked, the man inside, believed to be between 35-40 years old, opened the door and charged at officers with a knife.

The three officers retreated, but one of the officers fired at the suspect, hitting him.
