Former employees distraught after Cleveland hospital closes its doors

CLEVELAND, Texas – A hospital in Cleveland has closed its doors.

Texas Emergency Hospital put a sign on its door Monday.

There is not a lot of information about the closure, but former employees say they are distraught about the closure.

KPRC 2 showed up to the hospital Tuesday and saw the sign that reads Texas Rural Hospitals LLC is closed.

An employee said she learned about the building closure at about 3 p.m. Monday and the sign was posted around 7 p.m.

Some employees say they received layoff notices from Texas Emergency Hospitals back in February. Their letters said the closure was due to changes in reimbursement from payers and the unexpected decrease in the hospitals Medicaid interim rate.

The hospital also noted that with ever increasing costs associated with the hospital’s operations, a situation occurred that required the closure of its Cleveland campus.

At the time, the expected closure date was April 29, according to the letter.

Some employees say they are still waiting on their final checks.

For now, all patients are being referred to HCA in Kingwood for care.
