Houston Humane Society raises $100K with annual K-9 fun run

HOUSTON – The Houston Humane Society hosted its largest fundraiser of the year on Saturday.

Runners, walkers and four-legged friends took part in the 43rd Annual Houston Humane Society K-9 Fun Run.

“Houston Humane Society relies on donations,” said Director of Development at the Houston Humane Society, Debbie Ortiz. “So, this is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We’ve been doing this for many years, and as you can see, a lot of people have come out to support us. It’s all about volunteers and supporting the animals.”

The event took place early Saturday morning at Tejas.

KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding was the host for the event. Gage and his wife, Megan, and their rescue puppy, Harvey, were in attendance.

Runners took part in a competitive race followed by a K-9 fun walk and jog.

There was even a fun costume contest for dogs.

“The fun run raises about $100,000 for Houston Humane Society,” Ortiz said. “It’s extremely heartwarming. You know, we get to see the animals that come into the shelter every day, but you see how many people support and love their pets. These people love their pets. They’re part of their family. Our goal is to keep pets and families together."
