Just after 2:20 a.m., Houston police responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of Des Jardines Street and found a 39-year-old man shot multiple times in a front yard. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The shooter, a 58-year-old man who lives nearby, called 911 himself and told officers he fired in self-defense. Police say the man remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

According to preliminary information, the two men were involved in an ongoing conflict, and the deceased may have damaged the shooter’s property before the incident. The men exchanged words, which escalated into gunfire.

The case is being reviewed by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and will be presented to a grand jury. The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Anyone with more information is urged to contact HPD’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
