Bellaire High School was placed on a secure hold Tuesday after the school was made aware of a threat.

The threat was received over text message.

School principal Michael Niggli alerted Bellaire parents to the incident shortly before 11 a.m. He confirmed that all students are safe, and Houston ISD Police were investigating the source of the incident.

The school was placed on a secure hold as a precautionary measure, but it continued with the school day as planned, and students were not picked up early.

KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry was at the scene of the school. He said there was no visible law enforcement presence at the campus. Parents weren’t lining up to pick up their children, and students were casually walking outside during their lunch period.

Shortly after noon, Principal Niggli sent parents another update, saying that the investigation into the text message revealed that there was “no threat to student or staff safety.” He added that the lift has been cleared.

“Please know that we take all threats very seriously, and the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and community safe,” a portion of Principal Niggli’s second letter to parents read.
