CenterPoint Energy begins installing weather stations around Houston to boost hurricane preparedness

CenterPoint Energy has launched the first phase of a new weather station network across Houston, designed to improve real-time storm monitoring and mobilization as hurricane season nears.

By installing over 100 weather stations throughout the Greater Houston area, CenterPoint Energy is advancing its ongoing Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative.

The first phase of this ambitious project aims to improve the company’s ability to respond to severe weather events, including the highly anticipated hurricane season beginning June 1.

The new weather stations will be strategically placed across CenterPoint’s 12-county service area, providing 24/7, real-time weather data. According to CenterPoint, this network will not only enhance the company’s situational awareness during storms but will also assist in forecasting and modeling efforts by sharing the data with the broader weather monitoring community.

The weather stations will provide critical data that will aid in storm mobilization, preparation, and response, ensuring that CenterPoint can respond more effectively when disasters strike.
