In a disturbing case of violence and manipulation, a Houston man is facing charges for allegedly killing his girlfriend to silence her as a key witness in his upcoming trial.

John Roman, 40, is accused of murdering 28-year-old Breandrea Wiley, to prevent her from testifying in his aggravated robbery trial, according to court documents.

Roman, who is currently serving a 99-year sentence for an aggravated robbery conviction, is facing charges of capital murder in connection with Wiley’s disappearance.

The couple had moved to Houston in 2021, but their relationship began when Wiley was just 16, and Roman was in his early 30s.

In 2020, the two were involved in the aggravated robbery of a man. Roman’s violent tendencies escalated in the months leading up to Wiley’s disappearance in January 2022.

On January 12, 2022, Wiley was last seen leaving her workplace in Houston. Surveillance footage captured her and Roman leaving their apartment that morning, but only Roman returned later that day. That evening, her family reported that she had abruptly stopped communicating with them. Wiley’s bank records showed no activity beyond January 12.

Roman’s behavior grew increasingly suspicious following her disappearance. Surveillance footage and witness testimony placed him moving his belongings out of their apartment on January 22, using a truck that belonged to a friend. Authorities also linked multiple vehicles to Roman, including a rental car and his own truck.

Court documents revealed that Roman’s blue Jeep, the vehicle in which Wiley was last seen, was found to have been tampered with. Forensic investigators discovered bleach stains and blood-like spots inside the Jeep, along with several of Wiley’s personal belongings, including her Texas driver’s license, welfare card, and health insurance card.

The investigation further revealed that Roman’s motive for killing Wiley was likely tied to an upcoming trial. Roman was facing an aggravated robbery charge, and Wiley had been subpoenaed to testify in the trial, which was scheduled to begin in early 2022.

When law enforcement attempted to serve the subpoena to Wiley, they were unable to locate her. This was around the same time she was reported missing, and authorities believe Roman killed her to prevent her from testifying against him.

Despite multiple searches in areas linked to Roman, including his mother’s home, Wiley’s body has not been found.
