Man sentenced to death for murder of family, including 6-year-old girl in southwest Houston apartment

HOUSTON – A man convicted of killing a Houston couple and their 6-year-old daughter has been sentenced to death.

Xavier Davis, 28, was found guilty of capital murder in the deaths of Gregory Carhee, Donyavia Lagway, and their daughter Harmony, who were shot and killed inside their southwest Houston apartment on June 30, 2021.

The couple’s 10-year-old daughter was also shot but survived by playing dead and managed to call for help after the shooting.

The horrific crime happened just after 10:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on Fondren Road. Houston police arrived to find the couple and their young daughter dead from gunshot wounds.

Davis was initially charged with three counts of capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault. The charges were eventually consolidated in the 209th District Court, where he stood trial.

Prosecutors sought the death penalty, and after deliberation, the jury agreed. Davis was sentenced to death on Thursday, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
