MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – It’s been six weeks since 22-year-old Jonathan Scott’s body was found with gunshot wounds in a Spring neighborhood near Rayford Forest Lane and Brookhaven Street. But his killer has yet to be charged.
A close family friend, Kimberly Farrell, is speaking out hoping someone will come forward.
“I just want to know who did this,” said Farrell. “I am praying for the person that did this to have enough courage to step forward.”
Farrell tells KPRC she first met Scott as a neighbor more than a year ago but built a close relationship.
“He called me mom and he thought of my daughter as his sister,” said Farrell.
Scott is originally from Honduras and did not have immediate family in the Houston area, according to Farrell. She said he also lost his adopted mother about two years ago and Farrell was a mother figure to him.
“He was just fun-loving,” said Farrell.
Farrell lives about two blocks away from where Scott’s body was found and said the area has been prone to crime.
KPRC wanted to better understand crime in this neighborhood so we filed a public records request with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to get the number of shootings in the county from the last five years.
A spokesperson from the records division told KPRC shootings are listed as ‘firearm assaults’ and is not comprehensive data. For instance, a welfare check could end up being a firearm incident, like it did in Smith’s case.
From 2019 to 2024, there were a total of 617 firearm assault incidents.
In 2024, there were 92 incidents and 12 of those were in a 10 mile radius from where Smith was found. That’s about 13% of firearm assault incidents in this particular area.
“I totally feel unsafe,” said Farrell. “I have cameras everywhere.”
Farrell hopes someone will say something to bring justice to Scott.
