Houston Police Department officers responded to a reported assault at the address. When they arrived, they found Martin badly beaten, suffering from head trauma.

First responders rushed Martin to a hospital. More than a week later on Nov. 8, he was pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries.

An autopsy was performed on Martin’s body, which determined he had died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Further investigation identified Latrecia Nicole Washington, 50, and Marshall Paul Garrett, 38, as the prime suspects in the crime. The two are believed to have attacked Martin and caused the severe head injuries at a location near where he was found.

Washington and Garrett were charged with murder on April 8. Garrett is in custody at Harris County Jail, but Washington remains at large.
