A Texas City man is heading to federal prison after admitting to distributing fentanyl and other drugs in Galveston County.

John Earl Edwards, 46, was ordered to serve 13 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Edwards pleaded guilty in September 2024 to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

“Taking fentanyl off the street is good, but taking a fentanyl dealer off the street is even better,” Ganjei said in a statement. “This is one less person who makes their living off of the misery of their fellow citizens.”

Investigators say Edwards arranged the sale and delivery of a small amount of fentanyl on July 22, 2021. The investigation later revealed he was also involved in the distribution of cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Edwards will be allowed to remain on bond and voluntarily surrender to a federal prison facility at a later date.

The FBI’s Safe Streets and Violent Crimes Task Force and the La Marque Police Department investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Cusick prosecuted the case.
